A Rich, Sherried Classic from the 2000s Era
The Dalmore Gran Reserva is a highly regarded but now discontinued expression that sat at the heart of the Dalmore range in the early-to-mid 2000s. It was designed to showcase the distillery’s mastery of sherry wood maturation.
Unlike the current “Cigar Malt,” this specific release focuses purely on the balance between first-fill Oloroso sherry casks (approx. 60% of the blend) and American white oak bourbon barrels (40%). The result is a whisky that is distinctly darker and richer than the standard 12-year-old, offering deep notes of chocolate orange, spiced coffee, and rich fruitcake.
Collector’s Note: This bottle is no longer produced, having been replaced in the core range by newer expressions. It remains a favorite among “Old School” Dalmore fans who prefer the older style of wood management under Master Blender Richard Paterson.
