The National Liquor of China: 2017 Vintage
Kweichow Moutai (or Maotai) is the most revered spirit in China and widely considered the most valuable liquor brand in the world. This is the flagship “Flying Fairy” (Feitian) edition, identifiable by the Flying Fairy logo on the left of the label.
Produced in the town of Maotai, Guizhou province, it is a “Sauce Aroma” (Jiangxiang) Baijiu crafted from red sorghum and wheat. It undergoes a rigorous production cycle involving nine distillations, eight fermentations, and seven extractions, followed by years of aging in earthenware jars.
Why the 53% Matters: You have the 53% ABV version (as shown on the label), which is the “Investment Grade” strength. The lower strength (43%) versions are considered “drinkers” and hold significantly less value. The 2017 vintage is now settling beautifully, as high-quality Baijiu continues to evolve and improve inside the ceramic bottle.
