Mothballed by previous owners Whyte & Mackay, Bruichladdich distillery was revived in the year 2000 by indy bottler Murray McDavid. For a long time the distillery was the black sheep of Islay, on account of producing unpeated whisky in order to meet its owner’s blending requirements. Contrary to general expectations though, this also made it a hit with the locals who were presumably sick of the sight of peat.
Since its resurrection, and under the guiding hand of maestro Jim McEwan, Bruichladdich hasn’t shied away from experimentation in cask management, quadruple distillation, love-it-or-hate-it presentation, and the introduction of the heavily peated Port Charlotte and (REALLY heavily peated) Octomore ranges. Oh, and they make a mean gin too.
Released as part of the Bruichladdich futures series, this whisky is produced using all organic ingredients.

A bottle of the Octomore ‘Futures’ release – the first distillation of Bruichladdich’s notorious mega-peated spirit. This first Octomore is very phenolic at 80.5ppm and was distilled in 2002 and bottled in 2008 – the first 800 cases were sold in advance by the distillery to private customers from where these bottles have come.
